RESCU Academy Students Triumph at National Science Decathlon
Tuesday, 02 June 2009 04:31

RESCU Academy had 19 students participate at National Science Decathlon and all of them placed in at least one event. Overall, we took home 38 medals and the high school team placed third overall in their division! The kids did such an amazing job, it will be fun to see how well they can do with a year of experience under their belts and a full year to prepare for next year's competition. Here's a rundown of how the RESCU kids did:
In the middle school division, we had six kids compete. Grayson and Toby placed 3rd in the Nation in Green Planet, 2nd in Water Rocketry, and 1st in the entomology event, This Bug's for you. Mark and Mike placed 3rd in Robotics, and Isaac and Joey were National Champions in Amphibians and Reptiles.
Our 13 high school kids placed in 10 of the 14 events. Third place finishes were awarded to Larry and Chris in Marine Biology, John H. and Miri in Four 'N' Six, Clayton and Abbi in Airplanes, and Sean and Katie in Tower Breaking. Second place finishes went to Abbi and Clayton in Amphibians and Reptiles, Will and Daniel in Tower Breaking, and John P. and Harrison in Water Rocketry, Green Planet, and This Bug's for You. Our National Champions were John H. and Miri in Geo Trekker, Katie and Sean in Airplanes, John P. and Harrison in Mousetrap Cars, and Brandon in Water Rocketry, Green Planet, and This Bug's for You. Clayton also received a first place ribbon for helping Brandon in Water Rocketry.
Great job Everyone! Jason, supervising teacher and Science Decathlon’s coach, did a fantastic job organizing the event.  It was a blast to work with all of the truly gifted children on this project. They worked very hard and behaved so well throughout months and weeks of preparation and at both competitions. I'm so happy that so many of them were able to participate and that each of them was successful.
A special thanks to the RESCU families who supported the event with snacks, warm drinks, and lots of enthusiasm!
