Students Excel in Presidential Fitness Challenge
Tuesday, 26 May 2009 19:55

Twenty-four students participated and completed the Presidential Fitness Challenge on Wednesday, May 20, 2009.   The challenge included running a mile, completing a shuttle run test, push-ups test, sit-ups test, and a sit and reach test.  Three students ran the mile for a Presidential Award, including Daniel, Grayson, and Miri.  Daniel M. broke 6 minutes in the mile for his very first time, running 5:56 and earning his name on the “Sub-6” plaque.  John P. and Grayson also had a huge record breaking times, taking 45 seconds off their mile time to run 6:11 and 6:13. 19 students also received a Presidential Award for the sit-ups test, proving the RESCU crunches have paid off for many students.Seven students received a Presidential Award for the push-ups test, with impressive showings from Harrison, Grayson, Daniel, Mark, Alex, and Sean. Ten students qualified for the Presidential Award for the sit and reach test- showing off their flexibility to achieve the award.  The shuttle run proved to be the most difficult task, as students were hundredths of a second from qualifying for the Presidential Award.
RESCU Academy completed its “IronPerson” tradition by having students swim 120 laps at the YMCA pool after the challenge. Thank you to parents who helped record events, time runners, and bring food and water.
