Middle Schools Enjoy an Adventure with the “Grand Classroom” |
|
RESCU Academy students from 4th through 8th grade adventured to Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park from June 20th through June 24th. The students started the trip off bright and early in San Diego and flew directly to Salt Lake City, Utah. Although the weather was rainy and cold, the students did not hesitate to jump in the Great Salt Lake for a buoyant swim with their peers and chaperones. Following their cold swim, the students were off on a long drive all through Utah, Idaho, and Montana. The first trip on the agenda was the Norris Geyser Basin where the students were surprised how hot springs smelled like rotten eggs due to the sulfur content. Students experienced several hot springs, Old Faithful, “paint pots’, and many live animals, in cluding Bison, Elk, Deer, Moose, and Bald Eagles. Students also visited the Grand Teton National Park where they enjoyed breathtaking views, adventurous hikes, and fun times in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Students then put on their booties and life jacket as they floated down the Snake River, enjoying the scenic view from their rafts. On the last day of the trip, students and chaperones worked together as they rowed and ventured down the rapids of the Snake River, wearing special rain gear and wetsuits. It was a fantastic trip overall with many cherished memories and fun experiences. See below to see pictures and read some of the students most memorable or favorite moments: Isaac: “My favorite part of the trip is when we saw the mom and the baby moose at Jenny Lake. The baby moose was very playful and fun to watch run around.” Joey: “I have a lot of memorable moments- I loved the box lunches and when we saw the buffalo crossing the street! I also loved the river rafting” CJ: “I loved Old Faithful and going white water rafting down the Snake River!” |

RESCU Academy Students Triumph at National Science Decathlon |

RESCU Academy had 19 students participate at National Science Decathlon and all of them placed in at least one event. Overall, we took home 38 medals and the high school team placed third overall in their division! The kids did such an amazing job, it will be fun to see how well they can do with a year of experience under their belts and a full year to prepare for next year's competition. Here's a rundown of how the RESCU kids did: In the middle school division, we had six kids compete. Grayson and Toby placed 3rd in the Nation in Green Planet, 2nd in Water Rocketry, and 1st in the entomology event, This Bug's for you. Mark and Mike placed 3rd in Robotics, and Isaac and Joey were National Champions in Amphibians and Reptiles. Our 13 high school kids placed in 10 of the 14 events. Clayton also received a first place ribbon for helping Brandon in Water Rocketry. Great job Everyon e! Jason, supervising teacher and Science Decathlon’s coach, did a fantastic job organizing the event. It was a blast to work with all of the truly gifted children on this project. They worked very hard and behaved so well throughout months and weeks of preparation and at both competitions. I'm so happy that so many of them were able to participate and that each of them was successful. A special thanks to the RESCU families who supported the event with snacks, warm drinks, and lots of enthusiasm! |

RESCU Academy Prepares for Trip to China |
|
The RESCU Academy Staff are pleased to announce an exciting educational trip for our students coming up during the summer vacation. On July 10th through July 21st, we will venture through China on an EF Educational Tour. By experiencing foreign cities, distant cultures firsthand and understanding different international perspectives, our students will be able to connect with their studies and the world and society around them in a new way. By traveling to China, our students are not just learning about other places, cultures and languages, they’re living it, feeling it, and experiencing a once in a life time trip.
We will discover China, it’s complex history, intricate culture and fantastic landmarks and museums. We will pass through Beijing, with a guided tour of Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, and Imperial Palace. Students will experience the Chinese school system when they meet with students first hand. Students will also visit the Great Wall of China and experience a Riksha Tour of Hutongs. Students will culturally immerse themselves as they peek into a daily life of a typical Chinese family. They will learn and enjoy the art of Chinese cooking during a visit to a local household. On the fourth day the students will start their day off with Tai Chi exercises and visit the Temple of Heaven Park. |
